Hot water and steam systems use a lot of energy. Upgrading your existing system to become more energy efficient can help you reduce your energy bills. It can also reduce your emissions and environmental impact.
An upgrade is when you replace equipment or modify an existing system so that it becomes more energy efficient.
Examples of modifications include, but are not limited to:
- adjusting the controls on your system so your boiler runs only when needed
- optimising boiler blowdown rate and control
- installing heat recovery systems to utilise the low-grade waste heat in other applications
- eliminating steam leaks and steam trap losses
- minimising boiler/steam generator heat loss through better insulation.
This incentive is part of the Energy Savings Scheme, with additional benefits available under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. The more energy you save, the greater the incentive you can receive.
Get the upgrade
Here are a few steps you will need to follow to get the upgrade.
- Contact an approved supplier. They will be able to check your eligibility and provide you with a quote. You can contact multiple suppliers for quotes to ensure you’re getting the best energy savings. You may need to measure the energy use of your hot water and steam system for some time before and after the upgrade. This can be done by submetering or checking your energy bills.
- Choose a hot water and steam system or modification that will best suit your needs. Your supplier can help you choose based on your requirements.
- Make sure you choose an approved supplier before any work begins. The supplier will then provide you with the nomination form. You must sign the nomination form before your installation is complete, as you will not be reimbursed for works that are already completed.
- Your supplier will send a licensed electrician and/or plumber to install your new hot water and steam system. They will also show you how to use and maintain it.
- Your electrician and or/plumber will dispose of and recycle your old hot water and steam system, as well as any other equipment that is being replaced.
- It’s time to enjoy your new hot water and steam system. If you have any issues, contact your supplier for further assistance.
