Upgrading the electricity network to power our state now and for the next generation
Working with communities, industry, and First Nations peoples, NSW is leading a once-in-a-generation upgrade of our electricity network, building the infrastructure we need to keep the lights on and put downward pressure on electricity prices for years to come. We are harnessing the state’s abundant solar and wind resources to deliver affordable, clean and reliable energy for everyone. Progress is well underway. We already have enough projects signed-up to get us to more than 70% of the minimum 12 gigawatts of renewable energy generation, and 40% of the 2 gigawatts of long duration storage required by 2030.
Our move to a more affordable, clean and reliable electricity network is bringing secure, long-term jobs to NSW, creating new apprenticeships, and empowering businesses to bring economic opportunities to our local communities.
Roadmap progress
What is a renewable energy zone?
We’re accelerating investment in renewable energy by building five renewable energy zones (REZs) across NSW. REZs are powered with wind and solar and linked to new storage and transmission lines. The delivery of each REZ is being led by EnergyCo in their role as infrastructure planner. Find out more about the entities delivering the roadmap.
