Upgrading the electricity network to power our state now and for the next generation

NSW is undergoing the biggest energy shift in a century. Working with communities, industry, and First Nations peoples, we're modernising our electricity network, building the infrastructure we need to keep the lights on and put downward pressure on wholesale electricity prices for years to come. Our shift to renewable-generated power will harness the state’s abundant solar and wind resources to deliver affordable, clean and reliable energy for everyone. We're getting the job done. NSW now has enough projects signed up to achieve more than 70% of the minimum 12 gigawatts of renewable energy generation required by 2030, and has contracted enough projects to meet the 2030 and 2034 minimum objectives for long-duration storage.

Our move to a more affordable, clean and reliable electricity network is bringing secure, long-term jobs to NSW, creating new apprenticeships, and bringing economic opportunities to local businesses and communities.

What is a renewable energy zone (REZ)?

Renewable energy zones (REZs) are areas that group wind, solar and large-scale energy storage projects together, and connect them to the electricity grid via transmission lines. This coordinated approach helps attract investment in renewable energy and creates jobs and benefits for regional communities.

In NSW, EnergyCo plans and delivers REZs. Find out more about REZs.
