Net zero community emissions guide for NSW councils

Local government plays a critical role in leading and supporting climate change action in communities across the state.

The Net zero community emissions guide sets out practical steps for councils to address community-based emissions and map out their journey towards net zero. You’ll find in the Guide:

  • an overview of the key net zero concepts
  • the 5 key steps to develop and implement a community emissions strategy
  • tips on how to understand the data and guidance on engaging with key stakeholders and the community
  • case studies that showcase the experiences of other councils rolling out net zero initiatives
  • checklists to monitor your progress.

The Guide is designed to be used with the Net zero community emissions strategy template.

The Strategy Template greatly simplifies the process of creating council’s own strategy.

We recommend using both the Guide and Strategy Template to develop a fit-for-purpose net zero strategy that reflects your own community.
