Net Zero emissions insights webinar series
In 2021, we partnered with Local Government NSW to deliver the Net Zero emissions insights webinar series. This three-part series provides information to local councils on reducing emissions within their council and communities.
Councils taking action to reduce emissions
In May 2020, a study was conducted into the collective action New South Wales councils were taking to reduce emissions in their operations and local community.
Solar energy
NSW is a leader in the development of large-scale solar projects. These solar farms support jobs and investment in regional NSW, help to diversify the State’s energy mix and drive down costs for future large-scale solar developments.
Wind energy
The NSW Government is committed to a diverse, affordable, modern energy system. Wind energy is a key part of the state’s energy mix and is supported under the government's Renewable Energy Action Plan.
Bioenergy
Bioenergy comes from organic matter called biomass. Biomass sources include crops, forests, grasses and waste. If burnt, biomass releases carbon dioxide (CO₂) which can be reabsorbed through photosynthesis during the regrowth of biomass crops.
Geothermal energy
Geothermal energy is Earth’s naturally occurring heat, which is used to generate electricity or other forms of power.
Hydro energy
Hydro energy is the most established renewable energy technology in NSW and can provide rapid power on demand.
Ocean energy
Ocean energy can be used to generate electricity. One way it can be harnessed is by using a floating buoy, platform or submerged device (for wave, tidal and ocean current energy)
Clean energy knowledge sharing
To meet NSW Government’s net-zero emissions target by 2050, the Knowledge Sharing Initiative assists businesses to share stories and innovative solutions.
Pumped hydro grants
The $50 million Pumped Hydro Recoverable Grants Program is a key action in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. The Program will provide recoverable grants to project developers to assist with the cost of early stage, detailed feasibility studies for pumped hydro projects.
