Manufacturing and mining facilities in NSW contribute about 30% of our state’s total emissions. Accelerating their decarbonisation is critical to meeting our legislated goal of cutting emissions by 70% by 2035 and achieving net zero by 2050.
The Low Emissions Industry Program provides $40 million to help facilities in the manufacturing and mining sectors reduce emissions and ensure they are globally competitive in a transitioning net zero economy.
The Low Emissions Industry Program is part of the Industrial Decarbonisation Initiative.
About the funding
We’re providing $40 million to support NSW mining and manufacturing facilities implement projects to reduce their emissions. 50% co-funding is available up to a maximum of $10 million to support your project.
Projects must be completed and operating by June 2030, and can include, but are not limited to:
- fuel switching
- kiln and boiler upgrades
- waste heat recovery
- heat pump installations
- facility retrofits, including insulation, pipework rebuilds and process changes.
Who the funding is for
The Low Emissions Industry Program funding is for NSW manufacturing and mining facilities that:
- are ready to implement a project that will reduce the emissions of their facility by at least 1,000 tonnes of carbon per year
- reported emissions under the National Greenhouse Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme in the 2024-25 reporting year
- are not oil and gas facilities
- are not a Safeguard facility.
Please read our funding guidelines for more information about eligibility, merit criteria and the assessment process.
