We must decarbonise industry in NSW to meet our goal to cut emissions by 70% by 2035 and reach net zero emissions by 2050.
The Industrial Decarbonisation Initiative co-funds diverse emissions reduction projects. Our goal is to help NSW industrial sectors reduce their emissions and remain competitive in a transitioning net zero economy.
Under this initiative, we’re expanding opportunities to support more organisations, helping to drive greater industrial emissions reductions across NSW.

The Low Emissions Industry Program provides $40 million to co-fund emissions reduction projects at manufacturing and mining facilities that emit up to 100,000 tCO2-e per year. Business can apply for between $500,000 and $10 million, to cover up to 50% of project costs.
Applications close on Tuesday, 09 June 2026 at 11:00pm (AEST).
Eligible applicants and projects
The grant is open to manufacturing and mining facilities in NSW that reported under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Scheme in 2024-25. Facilities covered by the Safeguard mechanism are not eligible to apply.
Projects must reduce the facility’s emissions by at least 1,000 tCO2-e per year. All projects must be fully commissioned and operational by June 2030. Projects may include:
- fuel switching
- kiln and boiler upgrades
- waste heat recovery

The Renewable Gas Production Program provides $40 million to support new, commercially mature, front of meter biomethane production facilities. These facilities will be vital to decarbonise NSW industry and accelerate the state’s transition to renewable energy.
Businesses are able to submit an expression of interest. If invited to the full application stage, they can apply for up to $20 million to cover up to 50% of project costs.
Expressions of interest close on Friday, 24 April 2026 at 11:00pm (AEST)
Eligible applicants and projects
The grant is open to existing biomethane facility owners in NSW to upgrade their facilities, and to businesses that plan to own or have operational control over a biomethane production plant.
To be eligible, a business must be able to produce and supply biomethane into the NSW gas network at a minimum rate of 0.1PJ per year by June 2030. They must also prove that they:
- have agreements with:
- NSW feedstock suppliers for biomethane production
- NSW gas network owners or operators to enable injection in the gas pipeline
- an industrial off-taker in NSW that will use the biomethane.
- intend to participate in, and receive a letter of support from, GreenPower’s Renewable Gas Certification to create and sell Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origins certificates for the produced biomethane.
How to apply
