Understanding your business's energy use can help you reduce costs and lower emissions. You can achieve this by installing an energy metering and monitoring system, which is an essential part of good facility management.

Metering and monitoring systems provide valuable data to measure and optimise equipment performance. It can help your business:

  • save around 5 to 15% in energy costs
  • operate your facility more effectively and improve energy performance
  • identify options for electrification to reduce energy costs and emissions
  • track and report your energy performance
  • access government support for equipment upgrades.

Support and funding for metering and monitoring projects

We’re investing $12 million to help NSW businesses maximise the benefits of installing an energy metering and monitoring system.

This includes 3 initiatives to support each stage of your metering and monitoring journey.

  1. Metering and monitoring planning

    • Investigate and collect existing data
    • Identify sub-metering gaps
    • Develop a detailed plan
  2. Metering implementation

    • Install metering services
    • Configure data for reporting
  3. Energy performance services

    • Continue data configuration for reporting
    • Monitor and analyse data (ongoing)

Metering implementation grants

Installing energy metering and monitoring systems is key to understanding and cutting a business’s energy use. So far, we have supported businesses to achieve this by providing funding through the:

  • Submetering Grant: funding up to 50% of the cost of purchasing and installing submeters on equipment, up to $20,000 per site.
  • Metering Plan Implementation Grant: funding up to 50% of the cost of implementing the recommendations from eligible energy metering and monitoring plans, up to $100,000 per site.

Energy performance services grant

The Energy Performance Services Grant will support eligible businesses to identify their next steps after setting up their metering systems and collecting data. This could include support for software platforms, data analysis or reporting services, behaviour change, and skills development to make the most of your data.
