Net Zero industry and innovation

Driving a clean industrial revolution

We want to work with you to transform NSW into an innovative, thriving low carbon economy. By accelerating the development of clean technology and decarbonisation, we can lay the foundations to significantly reduce emissions and help industry prosper.

With more than $1 billion to support and partner with industry to move towards net zero, we are committed to:

  • encouraging investment in clean technologies, with increased certainty and confidence for investors.
  • future proofing industry by helping you decarbonise
  • creating a strong NSW by growing jobs and strengthening the economy.

By embracing the benefits of a low carbon economy, we can position NSW as an innovative leader now and into the future.

Net Zero Industry and Innovation launched in March 2021. It is part of the NSW Net Zero Plan Stage 1: 2020-2030 to reduce emissions by 70% by 2035 and achieve net zero by 2050.

Our three focus areas

1. Clean technology innovation

Supporting the development and continued innovation of emerging clean technologies.

This focus area will enable knowledge sharing, capacity building and collaboration between researchers, industry and government.

2. New low carbon industry foundations

Laying the foundations for low emissions industries by:

  • building enabling infrastructure and increasing capability of our supply chains
  • fostering and supporting emerging clean manufacturing precincts in NSW.

Learn more about clean manufacturing precincts and our decarbonisation roadmaps.

Low carbon and clean manufacturing

In February 2022, an extra $300 million was announced to expand this focus area as part of the Government’s response to the closure of Eraring power station

The Low Carbon Product Manufacturing Fund will open in 2023. It will support new industrial facilities and advanced manufacturing capabilities to help decarbonise the NSW economy. It will also stimulate investment and employment in the manufacturing of low carbon products and materials using commercialised technology. Learn more and get involved.

Developing hydrogen hubs for NSW

Up to $150 million in grant funding is available to support the development of hydrogen hubs in the Hunter and Illawarra regions.

Applications for hydrogen projects have closed, and 10 projects are currently being assessed. Hydrogen consumers can still get involved by submitting a registration of interest. Visit the hydrogen hubs page for further details.

Hume Hydrogen Highway initiative

We’ve partnered with the Victorian Government to co-deliver the $20 million Hume Hydrogen Highway initiative. This will establish Australia’s first hydrogen refuelling corridor.

Applications have closed and are currently being assessed. Visit the Victorian Government’s Hydrogen website for further details.

3. High emitting industries

Helping our highest emitting industries shift to net zero and deliver significant emissions reduction by 2030.

We are working with some of the State’s largest manufacturing facilities to help them scope transformative industrial projects. With funding to support major plant and equipment upgrades we will help manufacturing fast-track their emissions reductions.

$305 million of grant funding is now available to help these sectors significantly reduce their emissions and strengthen resilience into the future. Learn more and apply for funding today.
