About the electric vehicle destination charging grant

The electric vehicle (EV) destination charging grants program was a $20 million investment outlined in the 2021 NSW Electric Vehicle Strategy. This program has supported the roll out of widespread public EV charging infrastructure at visitor destinations across regional NSW to:

  • overcome range anxiety and help create a world-class EV charging network
  • support destinations across regional NSW to be EV-ready
  • support the growth of the NSW visitor economy and the ability to cater for an increasing number of EV drivers
  • support the development of EV-friendly road trips across regional NSW
  • reduce emissions and accelerate our transition to net zero.

A growing number of businesses are plugged in

The EV destination charging program has helped local businesses and councils across regional NSW install EV chargers, attracting more visitors and boosting the local economy.

Install an EV charger at your business

Hosting EV chargers can help attract customers and increase their time at your site. Installing an EV charger is a great way to grow your business, improve customer experience and attract more visitors to your community.

The NSW Government are looking for businesses and councils who are interested in hosting EV chargers. Learn more and register your interest to become a site host.

EV friendly road trips

The EV destination charging grants program has helped create the state’s first nine EV friendly road trips. EV charging stations are strategically located along each route, so it’s easier than ever to visit NSW’s most popular destinations in an EV - from pristine beaches and rugged mountain ranges to national parks and charming regional towns.

The EV friendly road trips campaign is a collaboration between the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and Destination NSW. This project highlights the NSW Government’s continued investment in building a world-class charging network while encouraging travel across regional NSW.

EV Friendly Town Awards

When EV drivers stop in regional areas to charge, they often stay to eat, shop and explore. This creates opportunities for communities to attract visitors and support local businesses. The EV Friendly Towns Awards recognises regional towns making this happen.

This initiative recognises destinations that provide great EV charging infrastructure and make it easy for visitors to explore NSW. The awards have launched in NSW, funded by the NSW Government and delivered by the Electric Vehicle Council.
