Why isn't my postcode showing?

See the list of eligible postcodes here.

If your postcode does not appear in this list you may still be eligible for our Energy Savings Scheme air conditioner upgrade discount.

Step 2: Contact accredited businesses for quotes

Use the buttons below to contact one or more of the accredited businesses active in your postcode in Step 1.

Important things to consider

Each of these businesses will connect you with at least one installer operating in your area.

Installer availability may change depending on demand. You should contact other accredited businesses to find available installers.

Make sure you:

  • get at least 2 quotes to compare
  • check your installer is offering a discount through the Energy Security Safeguard
  • check the discount is included in the quotes you receive.

Step 3: Choose an air conditioner that suits your needs

Each installer may have different air conditioner models available. Ask each installer for advice on which model is best suited to your circumstances.

Once you’ve chosen your air conditioner model, let your installer know so they can organise for it to be installed.

Important things to consider

While you can do your own research, not all air conditioner models are eligible for these discounts and not all eligible models of the same size in kW will receive the same incentive.

When deciding which appliance is right for you, a more energy efficient model should provide you with a bigger installation discount and greater long-term savings on your energy use.

Step 4: Complete the required paperwork from your installer

Your chosen installer will provide you with:

  • A nomination form, which must be signed and returned for the installer to secure the discount on your installation. This must be completed before you make any payment and before the installation begins. You won't be able to receive a discount if work has already been completed.
  • A quote for you to agree to, detailing the work to be completed, the discount you will receive and the total cost.
Important things to consider

You may be required to provide documentation, such as an electricity bill, proving your eligibility to claim this discount.

Once you have completed this step, you can proceed and receive your discounted installation. If you have any issues or questions, contact your installer for assistance.

Step 5: Organise your installation

Set a date for installation with your chosen installer. A licensed air conditioning installer will complete the installation.

What your installer will help you with

Your installer will:

  • install your new system
  • show you how to use it
  • safely dispose of or recycle your old appliance, if you are replacing one
  • assist with any issues for the duration of the product’s warranty. In some cases, the warranty on parts may be provided by the equipment manufacturer and not the installer
  • require you to sign a Post Implementation Declaration, declaring that the installation requirements have been met
  • take photos before and after the installation as proof that it took place.

What else can I upgrade to reduce my energy use?

You also may be eligible to get a larger discount when upgrading your hot water system to a heat pump water heater. There are also other energy efficiency upgrades you can make to your home or small business.

Your exact location and circumstances may also affect your eligibility and installer availability.
  • Use an accredited business contracted with the NSW Government’s Safeguard Acceleration Program. All businesses with this contract are listed here. Some businesses may subcontract to other installer businesses. In this case, the installer will tell you which business they’re working with that is contracted with the NSW Government.
  • Complete your installation by 30 June 2027.

For a limited time, these discounts are larger than the discounts normally offered by the NSW Energy Savings Scheme.

If you already have an energy efficient air conditioner you may not be eligible, as this discount is based on the potential energy savings of your new air conditioner.

Find out if you’re eligible for this discount by speaking to one of the businesses listed on this page. They will be able to check your eligibility for this discount. They will also discuss the options available and provide you with a quote, showing the discount applied, for the air conditioner and its installation.

If your postcode is not eligible for this offer, you may still be eligible for a discounted air conditioner upgrade through the NSW Government’s Energy Savings Scheme.

How much money will I save?

A more energy efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner can help you save up to $600 per year on your energy bills. Learn more about how reverse-cycle air conditioners work.

The discounts on installations are usually provided upfront in the quote provided to you by your installer.

The actual discount amount and final cost of your installation will vary depending on factors like:

  • the installer you choose
  • your location and the services provided, which may include things like travel and transportation costs
  • the model you choose to install
  • the design of your home or business, which may influence the complexity of the installation and the need for any additional building work
  • the administrative and compliance costs to secure the discount on the installation
  • the margin charged by the installer.

Find out your discount and get the best deal by contacting and comparing quotes from multiple installers.

You will need to make a minimum payment towards the cost of your new air conditioner and its installation. Your installer will be able to tell you how much this payment is.

Try our Energy Savings Calculator to see how much money you can save by using energy efficient appliances like a new air conditioner.

How long is this larger discount offer available for?

This larger discount offer will be available until June 2027 or until funding is exhausted. After June 2027, you can continue to access NSW Energy Savings Scheme discounts at the standard market value on energy efficient air conditioners and heat pump water heaters.

Can I choose any installer and get this discount?

The businesses listed on this page are contracted with the NSW Government to offer higher discounts on air conditioners in select NSW postcodes through the NSW Government’s Safeguard Acceleration Program.

Other installers may offer discounts through the NSW Government’s Energy Savings Scheme, or their own discounts.

We recommend getting quotes from multiple installers to make sure you’re getting the best deal for your needs and circumstances.

Can I claim discounts on multiple installations?

If you’re eligible, you can claim discounts when you install multiple air conditioners and other eligible appliances at your property. Talk to a business listed above on this page to discuss whether you’re eligible for these installations.

You may also be eligible to get a larger discount when upgrading your hot water system to a heat pump water heater.

I’m a renter. Can I claim these discounts?

If you reach an agreement with your landlord they may be able to claim this discount on your behalf. Find some tips on how to talk to your landlord about energy efficiency upgrades, and what other actions you can take to save on your energy use and bills.

Why should I upgrade my air conditioner?

Upgrading to a more energy efficient air conditioner can help you:

  • lower ongoing energy costs, with improved energy efficiency compared to electric heaters and portable air conditioner units
  • reduce maintenance costs with newer models that are more efficient and reliable
  • improve indoor air quality with filters that can remove dust, allergens and pollutants.

More than 41,000 air conditioner installations have been discounted by the NSW Government’s Energy Savings Scheme and are already saving people on their energy bills.
