Driving a clean industrial revolution
We want to work with you to transform NSW into an innovative, thriving low carbon economy. By accelerating the development of clean technology and decarbonisation, we can lay the foundations to significantly reduce emissions and help industry prosper.
With more than $1 billion to support and partner with industry to move towards net zero, we are committed to:
- encouraging investment in clean technologies, with increased certainty and confidence for investors.
- future proofing industry by helping you decarbonise
- creating a strong NSW by growing jobs and strengthening the economy.
By embracing the benefits of a low carbon economy, we can position NSW as an innovative leader now and into the future.
Net Zero Industry and Innovation launched in March 2021. It is part of the NSW Net Zero Plan Stage 1: 2020-2030 to reduce emissions by 70% by 2035 and achieve net zero by 2050.
Our key initiatives
We are helping NSW’s brightest minds make innovative climate solutions a global reality. We’re doing this by progressing technologies from the lab to real world environments through a range of grants.
A thriving clean technology community in NSW creates huge economic growth fuelling new investment, new jobs and new opportunities for businesses and communities. Applications for funding are currently closed.
We are laying the foundations for low emissions industries by:
- building enabling infrastructure and increasing capability of our supply chains
- creating regional industrial decarbonisation plans across NSW.
To do so, we’re investing $55 million into the Hunter and Illawarra to help accelerate their shift towards innovative clean technologies. We’re working with mining and manufacturing industries, clean industry experts and regional partners to help design tailored and actionable plans for each region.
This will open up huge economic growth and secure the regions’ low carbon economic futures.
We are helping scale up NSW's manufacturing capacity to produce low carbon products and components for renewable energy technologies.
Applications for funding are currently closed.
We are working with industry to develop a thriving green hydrogen industry in NSW. Hydrogen is a versatile fuel with the power to decarbonise NSW’s high-emitting and hard-to-abate industries, such as transport and freight, manufacturing, and agriculture.
This will help pave the way for a net zero emissions future while driving economic growth by generating up to $80 billion in investment by 2050. Our nation-leading $3 billion NSW Hydrogen Strategy delivers incentives aimed at driving down green hydrogen production costs, launching new industries, and providing future-focused training.
If you produce green hydrogen, you can apply for concessions to significantly reduce your electricity costs in NSW. Up to $1.5 billion is available.
We are supporting the development of 3 hydrogen hubs across NSW to increase the supply and availability of green hydrogen. These hubs are critical to reaching our green hydrogen production target of 700 megawatts by 2030. Applications for funding are currently closed.
We are supporting the industry to grow new supply chains to improve the affordability, reliability and sustainability of green hydrogen in NSW. This will help us reach our annual hydrogen production target of 8 million gigajoules or about 67,000 tonnes by 2030.
We aim to support the development of hydrogen refuelling stations on major interstate highways to transition our heavy transport industry to reach net zero by 2050.
We are providing $305 million in funding to help our largest manufacturing and mining facilities significantly reduce their emissions and strengthen their resilience in the future.
If your facility emits more than 90,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e) a year, you may be eligible for funding to help develop and deploy decarbonisation projects, from feasibility studies through to commissioning.
