Yes. If you are eligible for both types of support, you can receive them together. You can receive up to $4,000 off the cost of eligible energy saving upgrades through the discount. If your upgrades cost more than the maximum discount, you can apply for a zero-interest loan to cover the remaining amount.
If you want to receive both a discount and loan it is recommended you wait and and apply for a discount first. Use the Energy Savings Calculator to find the right upgrade for you.
If your household has already received a discount and you own your home, you can’t receive another one. If you rent, you can receive another discount if you have moved and have a different landlord. This helps keep the offer fair and available to as many households as possible.
Yes. To receive a discount, you must contribute a one-off payment of at least $200 towards the total cost of your upgrade. This is called the minimum customer contribution.

If you are eligible for a Home Energy Saver discount and loan, the order in which you apply will determine how the discount and loan can be used.
The following is only applicable before discount applications open. Once discount applications open, we will provide updated advice.
Applying for a loan first
If you choose to apply for a loan first, you cannot apply the discount to the same purchase. To apply your discount, you will need to choose a different product and set up a separate purchase.
For example, you apply for a loan first to install a residential battery. You cannot apply a discount to the same purchase for the residential battery. Instead, you apply for a discount on a separate purchase for a reverse cycle air conditioner.
Applying for a discount first
If you choose to apply for a discount first, there may be a gap between the discount amount and the cost of your selected upgrade that you will need to cover. This gap could be covered by a Home Energy Saver loan if you are eligible as determined by the finance provider. If you would like to apply for a discount and a loan on the same purchase, it is recommended you wait for discount applications to open and apply for the discount first.
For example, you wait for discount applications to open and apply for a rooftop solar system. The price for the upgrade is more than the $4,000 discount. You use a Home Energy Saver loan to cover the difference on the same purchase of the rooftop solar system.
Eligibility for Home Energy Saver loans is determined by your chosen finance provider. They will ask you to provide evidence on the combined household income for the owners of the property. This will include asking for a copy of your Notice of Tax Assessment for the previous completed financial year.
For more information, contact your chosen finance provider directly.
Yes. You can receive a discount or a loan if you meet the eligibility criteria and none of the exclusions apply. Strata or owners corporation must agree to the upgrade and you are responsible for seeking that approval.
Yes. You can use your discount to buy more than one eligible energy saving upgrade, but you can only receive a maximum $4,000 discount once.
For example, if you choose 2 upgrades that cost $10,000 in total, you will not receive 2 discounts. You will receive one $4,000 discount and will need to pay the remaining $6,000.
