Tips to cut your energy bill for free

You can lower your energy bills without spending money. Make these simple changes to save money and stay warm and cozy this winter.

  1. Heat yourself before you heat the room.

    Layer up with warm clothes and use a hot water bottle or a blanket to stay warm.

  2. At night, close windows, curtains and blinds to keep your home warm.

     Up to 40% of heating can be lost through windows.

  3. During the day, open curtains and blinds.

    This will let in the sun to naturally warm your home.

  4. Set your air conditioner or heater between 18-21°C.

    Every degree lower can save about 10% on your heating bill.

  5. Block cold draughts.

    Use a door snake or rolled up towel under windows and doors to block draughts.

  6. Only heat the rooms you’re using.

    Close doors and vents in unused spaces to save energy.

Get support to pay your energy bill

If you can’t pay your energy bill and get a payment reminder or disconnection notice, contact your energy provider immediately. They can help you with different options like payment plans or hardship programs.

There’s also government support available to help you pay your energy bills.
