Electric vehicles for business

In the past year alone, the number of NSW drivers that own an electric vehicle (EV) doubled to around 12,000. NSW is well on the way to reaching the 2030 goal of over half of all new vehicles purchased each year being EVs!

There are a range of benefits for businesses who switch to an EV.

Lower running costs

EVs have lower running costs and require less maintenance than petrol and diesel cars.

An average NSW driver is likely to save around $1,000 in running costs per year by switching to an EV. That extended over the cost of a fleet can be an important business saving.

Reduce your emissions and help your community

The transport sector is a significant and growing source of greenhouse gas emissions making up to 20% of NSW emissions in 2019. Almost 50% of those are from passenger vehicles.

EVs typically produce lower tailpipe emissions than conventional vehicles do. If you’re a business, hoping to start your emissions reduction journey, switching your vehicles to electric is a great place to start.

Improved fuel security

Australia currently relies heavily on international imports for our liquid fuels.

By purchasing an EV you can improve your fuel security by relying on electricity generated in Australia while reducing your liquid fuel costs.

Balanced energy supply

Some EVs can act like a home battery, allowing businesses to store excess rooftop solar electricity on sunny days and use that electricity at times when the sun is not shining.

By integrating EVs into the electricity grid in a smart way, and optimising charging times, EVs can help businesses take control of their electricity bills and improve the reliability of the grid.

We’re here to help you make the switch

We’re working to support NSW businesses shift to electric vehicles and make NSW the easiest place to buy and use an EV in Australia.

Here are some of the ways we can support your business.

We are investing $20 million to assist eligible regional NSW destinations co-fund the purchase and installation of EV chargers.

We are investing $105 million in the EV fleets incentive, helping NSW businesses accelerate their shift to EVs and reduce emissions.

Businesses, commercial property owners and managers, as well as site operators and owners across NSW will have the chance to be part of the world-class charging network.
