Energy customer policy reform

Learn about how the NSW Government is working to cut red tape for businesses and put customers at the centre of policies and programs.

Digitisation and emerging technologies are providing new products and services and changing the way customers participate in the electricity market. 

A key priority for the NSW Government is delivering an energy system that puts the customer at the centre of policy and program design, while delivering an energy system that is affordable, reliable and fulfils commitments made under the Net Zero Plan and the Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap.

The NSW Government understands there are regulatory and non-regulatory barriers being experienced by customers and industry, delaying the realisation of the full benefits of the transformation of the energy sector. Through this consultation paper, the NSW Government is seeking stakeholder views on a broad range of options to address the identified issues. 

Make your submission

We encourage you to respond to the consultation questions in your submission. We will consider your responses in developing responses to the issues raised in the paper. We will consider your comments in developing a NSW Government response to the issues raised in the paper.

Please also ensure you specify whether your submission should be anonymous and/or confidential. All submissions will be made publicly available on the department’s website unless a submission author indicates a preference for confidential treatment.

The department places a high priority on consultation and your comments. Your input will be vital to inform the development of solutions to regulatory and non-regulatory barriers customers face. The department expects to conduct further consultation throughout 2022. The submissions will inform the department’s work program and potential reform agenda. 

Stakeholder workshops will also be arranged throughout the consultation process.
