Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems contribute significantly to the energy use and operating costs of businesses. For example, in commercial buildings, HVAC systems are typically the biggest energy guzzlers.
You can access financial incentives if you choose an energy efficient model when installing a new HVAC system, or if you replace your old HVAC system with a more energy efficient model.
Upgrading to an energy efficient HVAC will:
- reduce your energy use
- lower your bills
- create a more comfortable environment for the people living and working in your building
- reduce your emissions and environmental impact.
An upgrade is when you replace equipment or modify an existing system so that it becomes more energy efficient.
Examples of modifications include, but are not limited to:
- optimising supervisory control systems
- optimising air flows and ventilation systems
- modifying HVAC systems to use a variable speed control.
This incentive is part of the Energy Savings Scheme, with additional benefits available under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme. The more energy you save, the greater the incentive you can receive.

Get the upgrade
Here are a few steps you will need to follow to get the upgrade.
- Contact an approved supplier. They will be able to check your eligibility and provide you with a quote. You can contact multiple suppliers for quotes to ensure you’re getting the best energy savings.
You may need to measure your HVAC system’s energy use for some time before and after the upgrade. This can be done by submetering or checking your energy bills. - Choose a HVAC system that best suits your needs. Your supplier can help you by showing you the different options available that would work for your business.
- Make sure you choose an approved supplier before any work begins. The supplier will then provide you with the nomination form. You must sign the nomination form before your installation is complete, as you will not be reimbursed for works that are already completed.
- Your supplier will send a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration technician to install your new HVAC system. They will also show you how to use and maintain it.
- Your supplier or technician will dispose of and recycle your old HVAC system as well as any other equipment that is being replaced.
- Enjoy your new heating, cooling and ventilation system! If you have any issues, contact your supplier for further assistance.
