Remote power generation

In those areas of Australia not serviced by a main electricity grid, electricity generated from renewable sources is often a cost-effective way of meeting electricity demand while also reducing reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation.

The Commonwealth Renewable Remote Power Generation Program provides financial support in remote parts of Australia to increase the use of renewable generation technologies in those areas that rely on fossil fuel for electricity generation.

Industry & Investment NSW administers this program in NSW on behalf of the Commonwealth.

The main aims of the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program are:

  • to assist the development of the Australian renewable energy industry;
  • to help provide effective electricity supply to remote users;
  • to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing diesel-fuelled electricity generation with renewable energy.

Visit the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts website for more information on the Renewable Remote Power Generation Program.
